tiero vs CareerSet: which one actually fits you

CareerSet and tiero both want to help you get hired, but they are sold to completely different people. CareerSet is bought by university careers services, and you get access because your institution pays for it. tiero is bought by you.

That one difference explains almost every other difference between them, including which parts of the application process each one bothers to cover.

The short answer

CareerSet is a mature CV-scoring and application-feedback platform sold to universities, and it is a strong choice if your university provides it and your main worry is whether your CV is good enough. tiero is a direct-to-student tool built around the whole application journey, so it covers the parts CareerSet largely does not: tracking many live applications at once, assessment centre practice, and final-round interview rehearsal. Two access differences matter. CareerSet is unavailable to you unless your institution has bought it, and tiero does not put any feature behind a paywall, so every student gets the same product regardless of whether they can pay.

CareerSet is the better fit if

  • Your university already provides it, so it costs you nothing.
  • Your main concern is your CV, and you want detailed scoring on it.
  • You want your careers adviser looking at the same feedback you are.
  • You want LinkedIn profile optimisation alongside CV work.

tiero is the better fit if

  • You are running a lot of applications at once and losing track of deadlines.
  • Your university does not partner with CareerSet, or you have already graduated.
  • You have got past the CV stage and now face assessment centres and final rounds.
  • You want help that is shaped around your week, not around what a careers team reports on.
  • You want the full product without waiting for an institution to buy it for you.

Common questions

Is tiero a CareerSet alternative?
For most of what students need, yes, and for CV scoring specifically, not quite. CareerSet's CV engine is more mature than ours. tiero covers considerably more of the journey after the CV, including application tracking, assessment centres and final interviews, and anyone can sign up directly.
Can I use CareerSet if my university is not a partner?
No. CareerSet is sold to institutions and reaches students through them, so access depends on your university or outplacement provider buying it. tiero is direct to you, so there is no gatekeeper.
What do you get on tiero without paying?
All of it. tiero does not hold features back for paying users, so the cover letter coach, application questions, video practice, assessment centre practice and final interview simulator are the same whether you pay or not. A paid plan raises how many applications you can run, not what you can use. CareerSet is free at the point of use too, but only if your university has bought it, which is a decision you do not control.
Can I use both?
Plenty of people would be sensible to. If your university gives you CareerSet, use it for CV scoring, and use tiero to manage the applications themselves and prepare for the later stages.
Does tiero apply to jobs for me?
No. Neither tiero nor CareerSet is an auto-apply tool. tiero helps you organise the applications you choose to make and prepare properly for each stage.
